How to save recipes from TikTok — and actually shop from them

Saving a TikTok keeps the video. It doesn't keep the recipe. Here's how to turn a recipe video into an ingredient list, cooking steps, per-serving nutrition when the creator shares it, and a shopping list grouped by aisle — in about ten seconds per video. Dinner, dessert, drinks, snacks: any recipe works.

The four steps

  1. 1. Copy the link from TikTok

Tap Share on the video, then Copy link. In-app favorites keep the video, not the recipe — the link is what LinkPlate needs.

  2. 2. Paste it into LinkPlate

Open your kitchen and paste the URL. TikTok hides captions from anonymous requests, so if the caption can't be read you'll be asked to paste the caption text — copy it from under the video and drop it in.

  3. 3. LinkPlate reads the recipe

It pulls out every ingredient with quantities, the spices, the steps in order, and calories, protein, carbs and fat per serving.

  4. 4. Tick what you're missing

Selected ingredients go to a shopping list grouped by aisle — produce, protein, dairy, pantry, spices — that you can print or copy.

What works on each platform

TikTok

Link works when the caption is public; otherwise paste the caption text.

Instagram Reels

Same as TikTok — paste the caption when the link is locked down.

YouTube & Shorts

Fully automatic: reads the description, falls back to spoken captions.

Why TikTok's own save button isn't enough

A favorited video is a bookmark, not a recipe. You can't search it by ingredient, scale it to four servings, check the protein, or hand the ingredient list to whoever is going to the store. LinkPlate stores the parsed recipe instead of the clip, so the same video becomes something you can plan a week around.

  • Search across every recipe you've saved, by name or ingredient.
  • Scale servings — amounts and macros recalculate, fractions included.
  • Cook Mode walks the steps with progress tracking, screen-friendly.
  • Albums per creator or per goal, so nothing disappears into a feed.

Questions

How do I save recipes from TikTok?
Tap Share on the TikTok video and copy the link, then paste it into LinkPlate. LinkPlate extracts the ingredients, spices, steps and per-serving nutrition when it's shared and files the recipe in your kitchen. If TikTok blocks the caption, copy the caption text from under the video and paste that instead — extraction works the same way.
Can I save TikTok recipes for free?
Yes. Creating a kitchen, importing recipes and building shopping lists are free.
Does saving a recipe on TikTok itself keep the ingredients?
No. TikTok favorites keep the video only — you still have to scrub the clip or read the caption every time you cook. LinkPlate stores the structured recipe so the ingredient list is there when you're standing in the store.
What if the creator only says the ingredients out loud?
On YouTube and Shorts, LinkPlate falls back to the spoken captions. On TikTok and Instagram, paste the caption or your own quick notes of the ingredients and LinkPlate will structure them.
Does this only work for healthy or fitness recipes?
Not at all. LinkPlate works for any recipe you find on TikTok — desserts, baked goods, comfort food, holiday dishes, cocktails, midnight snacks, or creator copycats. Nutrition info is shown when it's available, but it's not required.
Can I organize saved recipes by creator?
Yes. Albums are free-form, so you can make one per creator you follow, or one per purpose like desserts, weeknight dinners, or holiday bakes.
Can I turn a whole week of saved recipes into one shopping list?
Yes. Drop recipes onto the weekly meal planner and push the entire week into a single aisle-grouped list.
